Description
Annual herb (China) A branched, annual herb growing up to 1m tall, stems and branches sharplyquadrangular with longitudinal furrows and wings on the angles. Leaves simple,opposite, short petioled, glabrous, elliptic to lanceolate, narrowed to both ends, acuteat apex. Flowers small, white with purplish blotches or rose-coloured, in lox,spreading terminal and axillary panicled racemes. Fruit a linear-oblong, compressedcapsule, acute at both ends. Seeds numerous, subquadrate, yellowish-brown. (India) Erect annual herbs or shrubs, up to 1m tall, stem simple or branched, erect toascending sometimes sprawling. Leaves alternate, simple, often pinnately lobed,linier-lanceolate to oblancesolate, margin serrate, dentate or denticulate, base ussuallyrounded to tapering, sessile or shortly petiolate, exstipulate. Inflorescence a discoidcapitulum arranged in lax to compact corymbs or panicles or occasionally solitary;receptacle honey-combed, epaleate, glabrous or hairy; involucre campanulate tohemispherical, involucral bracts multiseriate, narrow, pubescent on the back, outerones much shorter than inner ones. Flowers with a tubular corolla, often yellow,rarely white or pale purple; marginal flowers female, corolla filiform, 2-4 lobed, inseveral rows; disk flowers bisexual, corolla (4-)5-lobed, stamens (4-)5, alternatingwith the corolla lobes, tailed at base, ovary inferior, style exserted, bifid. Fruit anoblong achene, terete or obscurely 4-angled, with 5 or 10 ribs; pappus uniseriate,composed of numerous, slender, toothed bristles, white or yellowish-white to red.Seedling with epigeal germination; para cotyledons free, opposite; hypocotyl notelongated; first pair of leaves opposite, subsequent leaves alternate. (Indonesia) Annual herbaceous plant, 0,4-1m high.. Leaves alternate, lanceolate, 40cm long by7cm wide, lower part surrounding the stem. Inflorescence in terminal dense raceme15-30cm long; flowers white, lip veined with red. Fruit globose or ovoid, 12mm long and 8mm wide. Flowering period: September - January. (Laos) An annual, erect herb, running 1/2 to 1 meter in height. glabrous leaves and white flowers with rose-purple spots on the petals. It can grow in pine, evergreen and deciduous forest areas, and along roads and in villages. Creat can be cultivated quite easily, because it grows in all types of soil. Moreover, it grows in soil types where almost no other plant can be cultivated, particularly "serpentine soil," which is relatively high in aluminum, copper and zinc.
