Description
Twining woody herbs. Leaves ovate-elliptic or some times panduriform, glabrous.flowers few, in short, axillary fascicles. Capsules oblong or globose-oblong, black ondrying. Seeds flat, deltoid-ovate, winged. (India)
A very long, slender, twining, perennial herb with ridged, purplish green to ashgreen,glabrous stems leaves simple, alternate, variable. 4-8.5cm long. l-4.5cm broad,linear . lanceolate to oblong-ovate, truncate or subacute at base, acuminate, acute,entire but somewhat undulate, glabrous and dark green above, paler beneath, petioles0.6-l.8cm long flowers, irregular, bisexual in axillary corymbs. pedicels slender, 1cmlong and glabrous bracts 2.2-2.5mm long. 1.5mm broad, ovate, acuminate, scantilyhaiiy perianth 3.2cm long inflated into a globose base, 5mm diameter, then bent atright angles and suddenly narrowed into a cylindrical tube. Icm long and expandedinto a trumpet-shaped mouth, one side produced into an oval lip, 1.7cm long. 0.8cmbroad, brownish purple with the base pilose and margin recurved, corolla-tube andmouth pilose inside, glabrous and greenish-white outside stamens 6. filaments absent,anthers sessile placed in a circle round the style ovary inferior, 6mm long, 6-locularwith numerous ovules. style short. 6-lobed, lobes short and pointed fruit capsulependulous. glohose-oblong with a slender base dehiscing septicidally throughplacentas into 6 valves, remaining attached to summit seeds flat, winged.Flowers fromSeptember to January.
