Description
Branched succulent stems 6.5-17cm broad, broadly ovate. subcordate or obtuse atbase, subacute or eaiai with a brisde in the middle at apex, 1 entire, thick, brittle.glabrous and shining; petioles 2.5-cm long, thick, somewhat winged; flowers regular.bisexual, few, sessile, about 4mm long in shori, lax, pedunculate spikes bracts 2mmlong, l-1 .5mm broad, lanceolate-ovate, acuminate and adnate, bractlets pale pinkish-white longer than perianlh, 4-4.5mm long, 3mm broad, oblong-ovate, obtuse periauthsegments 5, pink. 2-2.5mm long, 1-1.5mm broad, broadly oval, obtuse, incurved;stamens 5, included. epipetalous. anthers smail, versatile ovars superior, 1mm long, l-loculed with a single basal ovule, styles 3, erect. stigmas ciavate fruit a membranous,somewhat globose utricle completely enclosed in enlarged, fleshy, persistent perianth segments which turn purple : seed nearly globose, about 5mm long, embryo coiled in a flat spiral.Flowers from September to December.
