Plant usually glabrous, often pilose while very young; tubers obovoid-fusiform; mainstems much elongate, branched, with remote alternate scalelike leaves; lateralbranches short, with a whorl of leaves at the end; leaves thinly membranous,narrowly oblong to ovate, 3-10cm long, 1.5-4cm wide, acute at both ends, glabrous ornearly so, glaucous especially beneath, with obsolete undulate teeth or nearly entire;flowers solitary, pedecellde, terminal on the short lateral braches, pendulous; calyx-segments narrowly ovate or narrowly ovateoblong, subacute, green, 2-2.5 cm long, 6-10mm wide; corolla pale green outiside, purple-spotted inside, 2.7-3.5cmlong; fruit 2-2.5cm across; seeds dull, winged on one side.
