A herb with rhizome up to 1.6m long and 3cm thick, outside grey and shiny, tips pink,inside bluish or blue-green with whte cortex; leaf sheaths to 50cm long, bladeselliptical to oblong-lanceolate, 30-80cm x 9-20cm, green with wide purplish-brownsuffusion on each side of midrib on distal half; inflorescence on a separate shoot,bracts pale green, coma bracts purple; corolla about 4.5cm long, deep crimson-pink;labellum about 17mm x 17mm, pale yellow with deep yellow median band, otherstaminodes longitudinally folded, pale yellow, anther spurred.
