A deciduous shrub or small tree of about 10m tall with whitish-grey bark, exfoliatingin thin scales, armed with axillary thorns; spines on main trunk. Leaves red-pink whenyoung, alternate, variable in shape and size, ovate or elliptic, apex acuminate, basecuneate, to rounded, margins crenate or serrate, glabrous. Flowers greenish-yellow,generally unisexual, in short tomentose racemes. Fruits with persistent style. Seedswith a pale brown rugose testa. (India)
