A slender aromatic shrub with perennial woody roots. Leaves simple, alternate,glabrous, ovate, rounded lobed at the base, apex subacute, margins entire. Flowersminute on unisexual axillary, cylindrical spikes; turn green to yellow on maturity;male spikes longer than female. Berries ovoid, yellowish-orange turning dark red toblackish, sunk in the fleshy spike. (India) A creeping aromatic herb. Lower leaves ovate, cordate with big lobes at the base to10cm long, upper leaves dark green, oblong-ovate, cordate. Flowers in spikes, bractsof male spikes narrow and those of female spikes circular. Fruits small, ovoid shining,blackish green. (Nepal)
