A small, deciduous tree of about 15m high with thick dark grey bark having shallowcracks. Leaves simple, alternate, broadly obovate or obovate-oblong, rounded orshortly acuminate, membranous, crowded at the ends of branches. Flowers yellowish-white, large, showy, foul-smelling, in thick swollen hard terminal spikes. Sepals andpetals 4, stamens many. Fruits large, globose, green, glabrous berries, crowned withpersistent calyx and style. (India)
