Description
A diffuse, prickly undershrub, clothed with long, weak bristles with bulbous bases.Leaves alternate bipinnate; leaflets liner-oblong, sessile, glabours above, clothed withappressed bristles beneath, acute apex, base obliquely rounded. Flowers pink borne inglobose heads; calyx very minute; corolla pink, lobes 4, ovate-oblong, obtuse. Fruitsflat, slightly recurved, straw-coloured, consisting of 2-5-one seeded joints; suturesclothed with yellowish bristles. (India)
A herbaceous plant often with a nodulated root system. Stems slender, decumbentwith 1-2mm long light brown hair and 3mm long sharp thorns. An annual or perennial herb, sometimes woody at base and then subshrubby, up to 1(-1.5)m tall, often prostrate or straggling; stem usually sparsely armed with recurvedprickles up to 5mm long, glabrous to densely hispid. Seeds suborbicular tobroadly ellipsoidal, flattened, 2.5-3mm long, pale brown, surface finely granular.Seedling with epigeal germination, smelling like garlic; cotyledons ovate, sagitate atbase, truncate to emarginate at apex, glabrous; hypocotyl up to 15mm long, hairy,epicotyl absent; first leaf solitary, with 3 pairs of leaflets.
