Tree, with yellow juice. Leaves dark green when young, red when mature,membranous, mucronate, rarely obtuse. Flowers polygamous; male flowers axillaryand terminal fascicles; sepals orbicular. Female flowers solitary, short, terminal withfree or connate staminodes. Fruit spherical, large, purple berry with rough rind. Seeds5 to 8, compressed, enclosed in an acidic pulp. (India)
