A much branched, aromatic, erect, perennial, pubescent herb. Leaves opposite, entireor serrate, toothed and dotted with minute glands. Flowers purplish or crimson, small,in terminal, closely whorled racemes. Seeds dark-brown, small, oblong, blunt pointed.(India) Erect, small plant, annual or perennial, about 1m. in height. Stems and branchletspurple, pubescent. Leaves opposite, usually purplish-brown, long-petioled; marginsslightly denticulate pubescent on both surfaces. Inflorescence in close-whorledtemlinal raceme; nowers small, lilac or white. Nutlets sub-globose, slightlycompressed. All parts of the plant are sweet-scented (Vietnam)
