A branched shrub with stout, very sharp, recurved prickles. Leaves ovate-elliptic,subacute, sinuately lobed, velvety above with stellate fuscous hairs, sparsely pricklyalong the mid-nerve on both sides. Calyx cup-shaped, densely stellately woolly,prickly in the fertile, usually not prickly in the sterile flowers. Corolla pale purple,lobes ovate, acute, stellately hairy on both sides,. Filaments flattened, glabrous.Berries ovoid or subglobose, yellow. Seeds minutely pitted. (India)
